The Motor Valley is situated in the Emilia Romagna Region, along the Via Emilia, today also known as SS 9. It is the main road, which crosses the entire region perpendicularly from Piacenza to Rimini, a lively city, especially in the summer, due to its location on the Adriatic Sea. This ancient route dating back to Roman times is a very important connection for the whole region and a great starting point for road trips. In fact, the Via Emilia is not only a fast link between the north of the region and the coast, but it also connects several major cities such as: Piacenza, Parma, Reggio Emilia, Modena, Bologna, Imola, Forlì, Cesena and Rimini

If you are ever in the vicinity of Reggio Emilia, stop and admire the spectacular high-speed Mediopadana AV station in Reggio Emilia, designed by internationally renowned Spanish architect Santiago Calatrava. It is a truly exceptional construction, composed of a succession of large white steel arches that form a wavy effect and an impression of movement. To give you an idea of how impressive this station is, it is almost 500 metres long and weighs one and a half times that of the Eiffel Tower. It is a major high-speed railway junction as it connects northern and southern Italy. From here you can reach Milan, Rome, Turin, Florence and Naples in just a few hours.

Modena

Modena's Fastcar Circuit - Autodromo di Modena

Umberto Panini automobile museum

Musée automobile PANINI, Str. Corletto Sud, 320, 41123 Modena MO, Italy

The Panini family, yes that's right, the family that produces the famous Panini football stickers, started their classic car collection with the purchase of 19 Maseratis. These cars were to be taken by ship to England to be sold at auction. However, the Panini family managed to buy them just before the ships were to be shipped to port, thus preventing them from being dispersed around the world. In the course of time, the initial 19 Maseratis were joined by many other cars in the extraordinary collection of classics such as a Mercedes 300 SL with gull wing doors, a Stanguellini, a Fiat Balilla and a Cadillac 355. In addition, 80 motorbikes and around 60 tractors are also part of the collection. Needless to say, for fans of vintage cars, the Umberto Panini automobile museum is an absolute must-see.

visit modena and the motor valley - visit the enzo ferrari museum

The Museo Casa Enzo Ferrari is dedicated to the great Enzo Ferrari and traces the evolution of the Ferrari marque and its cars. The museum in Maranello is larger and exhibits a larger collection. However, the Museo Casa Enzo Ferrari is very centrally located, just a few minutes' walk from the city centre of Modena, and is a must for fans of this marque. It is a much more intimate museum built in Enzo Ferrari's early 19th century birth house and the old Ferrari workshop building. The new building constructed in 2004 by Future Systems is shaped like a car bonnet in yellow aluminium, the colour chosen by Enzo Ferrari as the backdrop for the world-famous Prancing Horse, the company's trademark that bears his name.

Museum of Historical Cars Stanguellini

Museo Stanguellini, Via Emilia Est, 756, 41125 Modena MO, Italy

The Stanguellini Museum is located in Modena in a fairly central location to the cetro, on the Via Emilia Est. It was opened in 1996 by Francesco Stanguellini, son of Vittorio Stanguellini, the well-known founder of the Stanguellini sports car manufacturer. The Stanguellini family's legacy is closely linked to engines and racing cars. Vittorio's grandfather founded a mechanical engineering company back in 1879, while Vittorio's father was the first private individual to register an automobile in Modena in 1910 that bore the license plate “MO 1.” Vittorio continued the family's great passion by developing racing engines at the FIAT agency, then founded his own Automobili Stanguellini company in 1929 and finally the Squadra Corse Stanguellini in 1938. The museum displays about 30 vehicles, including such notable models as the Fiat Sport 750 Bialbero, the Berlinetta 1100 and the Stanguellini Junior. The museum also displays the many trophies won by the Stanguellini Racing Team in various sports car races. Compared to other museums of much larger and better known brands such as the Ferrari and Lamborghini museums, this museum offers a more intimate atmosphere since it is a very well-curated private collection of Stanguellini racing cars and vintage cars of other brands such as Ferrari, Maserati, and Alfa Romeo.

This exclusive collection is being exhibited together for the first time. The museum offers a journey through significant moments in Horacio Pagani's life, from his early years in Argentina, his initial designs, his racing team, and his time at Lamborghini to the present day. Behind the museum, the production factory produces 2.5 million euro Pagani cars in limited series, completing on average just one car per month.

Maranello

Galleria Ferrari - The Ferrari Museum of Maranello

Galleria Ferrari, Via Alfredo Dino Ferrari, 43, 41053 Maranello MO, Italy

The Galleria Ferrari is located in Maranello, home to the factory and the beating heart of the brand. Compared to the museum dedicated to Enzo Ferrari in Modena, this museum has a larger area and therefore in our opinion offers a more complete experience. A visit to the Ferrari Gallery in Maranello is a must for any enthusiast of automotive excellence, racing history and Italian craftsmanship who is planning a tour of the motor valley. In fact, it is one of the biggest attractions for high-speed enthusiasts. This museum offers an unparalleled glimpse into Ferrari's legacy, showcasing an extensive collection of classic and contemporary cars, including rare prototypes and iconic Formula 1 models that have marked the illustrious evolution of this historic and world-renowned marque. In addition to the stunning original cars, the museum features interactive exhibits, such as high-tech driving simulators to experience the thrill of driving a Ferrari for yourself. The Hall of Victories celebrates Ferrari's dominance in motorsport with a display of championship-winning cars and trophies, allowing visitors to appreciate the brand's achievements over the years. On the occasion of your visit to the Ferrari Gallery Museum in Maranello, you can also book a guided shuttle bus tour to the Fiorano race track and along the Enzo Ferrari factory boulevard. You will pass the Ferrari racetrack, the Ferrari campus, and the factory where all Prancing Horse cars are manufactured. Some of the buildings in the Ferrari factory complex were designed by renowned architects such as Renzo Piano, Massimiliano Fuksas, Jean Nouvel, Marco Visconti and Luigi Sturchio. During the panoramic tour, however, visitors are not allowed to disembark from the shuttle bus, take photographs or video recordings.

In addition to activities for high-speed lovers Maranello is great for a day trip. Thanks to the beautiful surrounding hills, the historic village of maranello and the neoclassical Church of San Biagio.

The Ferruccio Lamborghini Museum, inaugurated in 2014 by his son Tonino Lamborghini, offers an in-depth look into the life and achievements of Ferruccio Lamborghini through his mechanical creations and a rich archive of family photos. In comparison to the Lamborghini Museum of Technology (MUDETEC), which is more focused in the story and future of the fastcar brand Lamborghini, the Ferruccio Lamborghini museum shows a much more intimate perspective on Ferruccio's life and passion for cars. It showcases Lamborghini’s industrial productions, from the first Carioca tractor in 1947 to Ferruccio’s personal car collection, featuring models like the Miura SV, Fiat Barchetta Sport, Countach, Jarama, Urraco, and the Espada. Visitors can also see unique items like a helicopter prototype and the Fast 45 Diablo Class 1 offshore boat. Film tipps for fast cars enthusiasts 📺

Ferrari (2023)

Michael Mann's Ferrari (2023) is a biographical drama about Enzo Ferrari, starring Adam Driver, which focuses on the year 1957 - a time of great personal and professional challenges for the Italian racing car manufacturer. The film shows Enzo Ferrari on the brink of bankruptcy, mourning the death of his son Dino, struggling with marital problems and preparing his drivers for the Mille Miglia race. The film was particularly praised for its acting, racing scenes and historical accuracy, which impressively portray Ferrari's complex personality and his influence on motor racing.

If you have seen the film, it will be particularly interesting to stroll through the streets of Modena's historic centre and revisit the locations where scenes from the film were shot. The most iconic locations of the film Ferrari were filmed in Modena: in Piazza Grande, between the Duomo and the Torre Ghirlandina, Piazza Roma, Corso Canalgrande, Largo Garibaldi, St. Peter's Church, between the Storchi Theatre and the fountain of the two rivers by Giuseppe Graziosi, at the Stazione Piccola in Piazza Manzoni, at the central Modena train station in Piazza Dante Alighieri and at the monumental cemetery of San Cataldo. Other places shown in the film that you can visit during your trip to Modena are: Maranello, the Fioriano Modenese race track, the beautiful hills between Modena and Castelvetro, and the Enzo and Dino Ferrari Autodrome in Imola. Moreover, the more observant might recognise the famous Michelin star chef from Modena, Massimo Bottura, in one of the scenes of the film.

Lamborghini: The Man Behind the Legend (2022)
